The Renard Consort is a group of both amateur and professional musicians who share a common interest in playing the recorder. Musical selections in the Consort’s repertoire range from pre-renaissance to modern day, and include transcriptions of existing works as well as music originally written for the recorder. Recorders used by Consort members are modern replicas of historical instruments, and are made from a wide array of woods as well as plastic. Instruments vary in size from the tiny garklein to the very large contra-bass. In 2006, the ensemble adopted the name, The Renard Consort, to honor its presence in the Fox River Valley. Based in Appleton, its members have come from many adjacent and nearby cities in northeast Wisconsin.
